Last weekend, a few neighbor kids came over to say hello and they wanted to touch the babies. Ashton put up her hands and said "NO! Get away from my brother and sister". We were amazed that her natural reaction was to guard the babies.

There are definitley times where she demands attention. Usually it's when I'm right in the middle of something that requires my full attention like feeding both babies at once, or changing a diaper. Then I hear "Hold ME mom!". Or "It's MY turn!".

One of the main reasons we wanted to have more kids was so that Ashton could experience what it's like to have a sibling, so we can't wait to share all of the joys that having a bigger family will bring!

Austin and Emma's First Easter

http://www.hackettville.com/1/post/2012/04/happy-easter2.html

http://www.hackettville.com/1/post/2012/04/happy-easter2.html#comments

Uncategorized

Austin and Emma were ony 12 days old for their first Easter sunday. We had a week to tie things up at work, make a plan for where ashton was going to go, etc. But the babies decided to suprise us all by coming out at 36 weeks instead! On March 27th, my water broke a little after midnight. We called my mom to come down and stay with Ashton, then made our way to the hospital. Things progressed pretty quickly. Both babies had their head down, so the doctors planned for them to come out the natural way (:-)). Austin was out by 10:30. But Emma shifted at the last minute and became breach. The doctors spent 30 mins trying to move her position so she could come out the same way, but it wasn't happening, so Emma was born at 11:07 via C-section.

THE BABIES:
Emma and Austin both had a hard time breathing when they came out. After several hours in post-recovery, Austin was allowed to join us in the recovery room. But Emma had to spend her first 48 hours in different levels of intensive care until she was breathing better and taking in food on her own. Compared to a lot of NICU experiences, we were very lucky this was short and not too serious.

WHERE THE NAMES CAME FROM:
Emma Jean - We both liked the name Emma, and Jean is Brendan's mom's first name.

Austin Daniel - Brendan loved the name Austin (it took me a while to come around, but I do love it now!) and Daniel is not only Brendan's dad's first name, but it's also Brendan's and his brother Jake's middle name too.

HOW ASHTON IS DOING:
Ashton has been amazing! She welcomed her brother and sister with open arms and a lot of kisses. Every day she gets more attached to them. There have been times when she has been frustrated that mom and dad have to tend to babies instead of her, but we are trying really hard to make the transition easy for her. Just today she went to spend some time with Lovey, and she yelled out the car window "don't forget to feed the babies!!"

We will do our best to update Hackettville more often so everyone can see how the babies are growing! We are so happy, thankful, and exhasuted :-)!

 document.observe('dom:loaded', function() { wSlideshow.render({elementID:"516173973302340988",nav:"thumbnails",navLocation:"bottom",captionLocation:"bottom",transition:"fade",autoplay:"0",speed:"5",aspectRatio:"auto",showControls:"true",randomStart:"false",images:[{"url":"1/9/7/3/1973406/4512823.jpg","width":"333","height":"221"},{"url":"1/9/7/3/1973406/142958.jpg","width":"333","height":"221","caption":"Austin's first picture. 5 lbs, 11 oz. 19 inches."},{"url":"1/9/7/3/1973406/5515412.jpg","width":"333","height":"221","caption":"Emma's stats - 5 lbs, 6 oz. 18 inches"},{"url":"1/9/7/3/1973406/3199910.jpg","width":"333","height":"221","caption":"Emma's first picture"},{"url":"1/9/7/3/1973406/3756870.jpg","width":"333","height":"221","caption":"Both babies in the post delivery room.
